There will also be a fee charged for the catered luncheon if they wish to participate.

Lisa Garrigues,  “Womens’ Stories”

 

Stories allow us to pass on who we are and where we came from, connecting one generation to the next, grandparent to parent to child.  In her book, Writing Motherhood:  Tapping into Your Creativity as a Mother and a Writer (Scribner 2007), longtime writing teacher and local author Lisa Garrigues shows women how to begin writing from the text of their everyday lives-at every age and stage of life.  Now, Lisa will share some of the never-before-told experiences that inspired her to become a writer, and she will invite you to pick up a pen and begin  recording your own stories.

The William Paterson Chamber Singers and the

University Jazz Orchestra

 

College Club will be treated to a return concert by 18 wonderful student musicians and their director Dr. David Demsey, who compose the William Paterson University Jazz Orchestra.  They will perform the Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington/William “Billy” Strayhorn arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s much-loved The Nutcracker Suite.  The orchestra will be joined by the William Paterson Chamber Singers, who are directed by Dr. Frederick Irwin, for the choral program.   Both the orchestra and the chorus will accompany us for our traditional sing-a-long, an event not to be missed!

“SPEAK FROM THE HEART AND MAKE THE CONNECTION:

A BETTER UNDERSTOOD YOU!!”

 

Four time Emmy Award winning Channel 13/WNET (PBS) anchor and columnist NJ’s Steve Adubato, Ph.D., has enjoyed a distinguished career as a broadcaster, author, and visiting university professor at Rutgers and Montclair State.  He is NJ’s popular MC for all occasions, selected by NJ Monthly Magazine as one of the state’s most powerful people.  At 26 he was NJ’s youngest elected state legislator.  He covers political issues and commentary for MSNBC, PBS, and WABC.

 

In his talk he plans to include some “insider news” about NJ’s first primary election, held the week before he speaks to College Club.  This media whiz will help you be “A BETTER UNDERSTOOD YOU.”

Dr. William Craft Brumfield,

“IMPERIAL ESTATES OF ST. PETERSBURG”

 

Professor Brumfield is an architectural historian, photographer, and professor of Slavic Studies and Architecture at Tulane University.  He hold his Ph.D in Slavic Studies from the University of California at Berkeley.  His extraordinary photographs, of a wide range of buildings in Russia and the former Soviet Union, are prized parts of the collections of the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., and the prestigious Russian Congress.  He has been elected to the State Russian Academy of Architecture and in 2006 he was inducted into the prestigious Russian Academy of Art.  Dr. Brumfield has made well over100 trips to Russia and has lived there for as long as five years at a time.  Since 1955 he has lectured at the Metropolitan Museum and he is currently lecturing there on Russian topics.  His most recent books include a revised edition of the indispensable History of Russian Architecture, in hardcover and paperback.

Our speaker today will be Mary Sue Sweeney-Price, Director of New Jersey’s outstanding Newark Museum.  The Newark Museum is admired internationally for its superb collections, especially in historic American art, decorative arts, a rare Tibetan altar, Egyptian and African art, and so much more.  Don’t miss this special slide tour, an opportunity to learn about the depth and breadth of this extraordinary museum first hand, from the director herself.

AND COLE PORTER"

 

Terri Cerritto and David Snyder joined forces to entertain audiences in 2004, keeping alive the warmth, wit, and style of the Great American Songbook.  Their partnership is the culmination of years of individual musical and theatrical experiences.  Terri and David met while engaged in audience development performances for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC).  Their Manhattan premiere was at the celebrated  Metropolitan Room in November, 2006.  They will be performing that scintillating show for our College Club luncheon.  Check out their website, www.terrianddavid.net for details.
